• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

406 Camper build thread

Mounted the fire extinguisher to the bed. Used existing screw for the cubby trim for the left side of the mount and drilled a whole and used a plus nut for the right side of the mount.
Plusnuts saved me many times on my van build. Now onto wiring my lights and finishing the rear seat delete.

Finally installed my White Knuckle Off Road rock sliders just in time for Cruise Moab next week.
Definitely recommend these. Machining is precise, qualify is superb. Fast shipping and very competitive pricing.
It took about 3 hours as I was very methodical and took my time. It's snowing right now so better pics will be forthcoming.

A couple more things 'installed' today. Trash-a-roo with custom logo, and the hitch skid plate.

Tackling the @ARCHIVE Garage flip kit with bump stop and @ragofabrication shock guards this morning.
Be sure to wrap your shock boot up in something when you are using the cutoff wheel to cut down the u-bolts lest you want to melt them. I used Reflectix I had laying around. Also protect the bump stop with something or the hot shards of molten metal will destroy them. And you might want to wrap the gas tank too like I did. You don't want to damage the gas tank or blow yourself up.
The @ARCHIVE garage u-bolt flip kit was pretty easy to install if you take the tires off.
The @ragofabrication guards are beefy. They come with 2 massive bolts for each side. They have a slot in the bottom so that you can wedge a screwdriver under the shock and leverage it to get the bolt through. Wish I had known that earlier. The YouTube video doesn't show that slot.

I never finished my pirated 'goose gear' deck before my trip. However I did add an old HF power inverter (similar to the attached) to the mock up and it saved me big time in Moab. I was able to charge laptops, cell phones, radios, etc. I need to move it back about 2" to protect the USB cables when connected.

I have a dyno appointment on Tuesday to make some minor adjustments. Discounted through my TLCA Chapter/off-road club "406 Cruisers".
I will post results.

Updated with results (that I forgot to post).

Had the OTT Mild-Medium tune done today by @benh088 with Wyoming Overland Tuning. No more gear hunting and very nice acceleration. Took about 10-15 minutes.

Got the new ARE CX Classic truck bed cap with Linex coating and windoors installed on Thursday. The new Artec Industries 3G Venture rear steel bumper with Diode Dynamics SSC1 rear lights was installed on Wednesday. The truck is filthy. Will post more pics after it is washed. Next up is a bed/drawer build.

Mark

Overland Torque Tune "OTT" Road Report: I got back from West Yellowstone snow wheeling last week. Initially, I thought I had made a grave mistake getting the OTT Tune. I was only getting about 12mpg on the interstate during a 2 hour drive West. As soon as I turned South, I started getting 17mpg. What I didn't realize is I was driving into a 20mph head wind and it was 10 below zero without the windchill. So that was pretty rough conditions. Before the OTT I was getting about 15mpg. Remember, I am pretty heavy for an Access Cab. Lots of armor and steel. So I'll take that modest increase in mpg. You can really notice the power in the lower bands, and the truck doesn't lurch anymore. I wish I had done it sooner. Will really put her to the test in Moab next month.
