I’m Justin from SW MO. Been eyeing Tacoma’s for a few years, finally made the leap. Found a ‘18 Sport at a local dealer with low miles and factory warranty. Was really searching for white, but once I saw this Blazing Blue, I couldn’t resist. Eventually I’d like to lift and throw some ko2’s on it. We are planning on getting a camper and rzr so we needed a truck as my wife’s RDX can’t tow very much. Anywhos, here’s a couple pics of this. Also got some vanity plates on the way, I thought they were hilarious.
First thing first, pulled the chin off. Then got the windows tinted. Also picked up some oem floor mats. Towed a buddies wildcat on second day of ownership to go have some fun.

Hello and welcome. Nice truck. I've always liked that color. Cute pooch too. Looks like a silky terrier I had back in the day.

We’ll call this the build that lacks building. It’s gonna be slow, but I’ll try and update as I do things. Ordered some led headlights for the low beams, they were just drop in. I feel they improved visibility. Also picked up an AVS Areoskin on the cheap, just can’t decide if I actually want to use it or not? Still need to remove the vinyl from between the doors, and debating on debadging the whole truck or buy black out kit. Just passed 36k miles on the way to work today, bringing my mileage to 3k in 36 days of ownership!

Small update. Went ahead and pulled the mud flaps. Rode some trails in and around Mark Twain today with some friends. Got into quite a big pile of seed ticks 🤮 Hit up red bridge, watched them almost get stuck in the Jeep in some mud puddles. I didn’t want to get stuck today lol, stock tires are ok but not good enough for mud.

Also got my plates in.

Finally stopped slacking. Went to my buddies shop, got the stickers, black vinyl and emblems all removed. Even washed and threw on some meg’s ceramic spray wax on it. Looks much better. Will be good when I get my tonneau. I think next on the agenda is wheels, I’m leaning more towards the 4R Pro in bronze.

Finally got a chance to get my tonneau ordered. We have a trip planned in Oct, and would be great to use the bed for storage. Me being me, I have a hate for accordion style tonneau’s, as they limit space in the bed. Even the tri-fold ones you either lose 1/3 of the bed space or use of the back window. None of those options would work for me. I ended up reading a ton of reviews and doing a ton of research. Cost played a factor as well, even with this one being the cheapest, has great reviews. I ended up ordering the Tyger T-1 roll up. Made in the USA. Since I was placing and order on Amazon, went ahead and took a page from @bonifacio and ordered a quick charge socket to replace the one on the dash for now. I may end up ordering another one for the center console. Don’t mind the Cavenders 😂😂 since I have all these medical issues going on, dr said no sodium. But for real Cavenders is amazing. I plan on doing a full review/install on both once they come in.

Pro-tip. Always order everything from Amazon separate. You don't pay anymore in shipping. That way each item gets it's own order number. Every order that is late, message Amazon and they'll give you a $5 Amazon credit.

Very clean look. Bronze wheels will look awesome with that color.

That's a great tip! Never thought about doing it that way.

This is what I'm looking at currently. Just need to order when all of them come in stock. Looking at Bronze.

Thoughts on that socket placement? I'm debating on lower dash for easy access, or go stealth and install in the center console? I can't decide.

You mean replace the lower dash or add a new outlet in the center console? Just so I understand. I was like there a socket in the center console. But it's the usb thing. Like replace the usb thing or add this separate?

I left the center console anything alone. If anything is add a DC outlet or whatever there. Between the stuff I ran behind the headunit, I still use the lower dash one. Having the phone on a mount up top with the line coming out is clean. But when I want to have my phone in my hand I'll plug it into the lower dash outlet with a standard length cord.

Mines an '18. Which means I have a socket in the console. I thought it was strange to have one in there, considering all the Tacoma's I test drove all had USB like you mentioned.

I think I'll go that route. Just need to find a good write up on dash disassembly. Would be awesome to find an image of how the socket in the lower dash is wired.

Let me try to find pics of the outlet. Are you looking to add a charger behind it as well or just replace the outlet?

2nd Gen but gives you an idea. tonered took this picture. Stole it off TW.

Perfect! Did you have the headunit out to be able to reach that socket to remove it? I’ve seen it down the other way, but I’m sure that way is easier. And yeah I just want to replace the whole socket.

On another note, my tonneau just arrived. When this game is over I’ll run out and throw it on!

I did take the head unit out because I had to screw on the collar to hold in the outlet so I did have to reach down in there. To take it out you can pull the metal tabs on the barrel or just crush it in-ward. I got frustrated, ended up smashing and crumbling mine.

Sweet! Thanks for the tip!

Installed the Tyger T1 roll up tonneau. Wife and I have a trip planned in a few weeks, it’s gonna be nice to store things in the bed to save space in the cab. This thing literally took longer to take out of the box. 10 min tops. All that’s needed, Phillips screwdriver and 10 MM. Adjusted and donezo. Also peep a package I got from @Tyler Thanks again! Please disregard my dirty garage, just finished washing both cars, my truck was so dusty and dirty from yesterday.
