• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

So what do y'all do in you spare time?

Another than tinkering with the Taco I like to do some painting in my spare time.

Photography and my brother really got into bouldering recently. Hoping to move into actual rock climbing soon

Also, I built a small server to automate backing up my photos and "backup" other media since streaming platforms got way too expensive when I mostly just rewatch a few old shows again and again (Futurama and Always Sunny). Can't show any interesting pictures of that hobby, though.

Ultramarathons. Currently got my eye on revenge at Superior 100 in September.
Good for you man, wish I could get my legs to do even just a marathon...not built for it :)

That, and my job doesn't allow for regular training for long-distance running.

I ran 16 miles before tackling the needle bearing. My kid is in college so I'm an empty nester with some extra time on my hands.

When covid began, I decided to learn to play guitar. I found a cheap yamaha pacifica on craigslist for like $60. Been self teaching playing by ear for the last year or so. I like to play mostly blues, Elmore James, Jimmy Reed etc.

I came into this thread to reply but then I realized something…

I think my main hobby is researching everything about a new hobby that I want to get into, only to lose interest shortly after.

I’ve been interested in so many hobbies that I’ll spend hours researching the best this-and-that, starter/entry kit to buy, etc. Then I’ll move to finding the best places to buy from. Then I’ll find the best enthusiast websites for the hobby, etc, etc. But it usually doesn’t last and I either regret my purchases or manage to sell/return them.

A few that have stuck, though:

—Mountain biking (before my back injury)

—Trying to learn valuable real-world knowledge on YouTube and blog websites

—Coding/designing websites

—The beach, surfing, swimming, paddle boarding

—Trying to include our dogs in most things we do

Exactly. It's interest. All in. Addicted to the research and buying part. Plateau. Find something new. Revisit an old one.
Then I can't just buy the crappiest thing. It has to be nice. Buy, sell, upgrade, sell, buy. Repeat.
Always trying to hone a skill or have cool stuff. Not keeping up with Jones', it just having it.

This 100%

I’m definitely addicted to the research part. Huge amounts of dopamine from the build up before the purchase. Then actually getting the thing and/or beginning the hobby ends up being unexciting and the cycle repeats.

I’m in the same boat. I have at leased two projects in the garage that have been waiting for months to be completed.
