New to the forum and just got my first Tacoma (2019 TRD Off Road). Looking to get the 4Runner Trd wheels and KO2. With stock suspension, what is the biggest tire size without any rubbing issues can I go with? 265/70/17? Trying to stay stock until my warranty 2 year Toyota care runs out.

Thanks for the site. Awesome to be here and learn from everyone.

This thread is super useful but to save you from looking... Largest tire without lift (preferred) :"17" wheels - 265/70r/17

Thank you. I did see that thread. Should have posted there with question. I know a lot of Tacomas have the 4Runner TRD wheels and was wondering based on their offset etc if they created any issues on stock trucks.

Thanks. (Sorry for the newbie question) hope to learn a lot here.

I have the TRD pro Sema 17” wheels and 265/70/17 rated C KO2 tires and haven’t looked back!

I did a write up post on my stock suspension build I think you might be interested in checking out!

Thanks for the pic and info. I’m really close to getting the same wheel and tire combo here in Florida. I always have a trd but 2wd off road. Florida doesn’t have much off roading and being my first truck I would have LOVED a 4x4 but I’m mostly using my truck for utility and daily driver. Overlanding in mountains would be amazing but nothing here to do besides dirt and bushes in Everglades.

Your truck looks great. I’m assuming no issues on rubbing with the tires. I know everyone says there shouldn’t be for that size tire and wheel combo but with my luck, I’d be the first to get rubbing. Haha.

Still would like a lift and bigger tire combo in future. But like you said, the gas mileage is a big sacrifice and as much as I would love the aesthetic of the truck, the loss in mpg would beat me down more than anything else. Guess I could always just get another car for better gas miles but who wants to do that. :)

Loving the truck this far. Less than 2 months and my prinsu is on its way next Monday. Little additions to add without modifying the stock build too much. By the way, the OEM trd grille, how much you pay for it and how does it differ from the knock offs. It looks like a richer black? Heavier plastic?

That’s my next upgrade. Amazon is selling without OEM garnish as 399. My nearest dealer at 499.

Thanks for reading my write up! I'm glad I could help you! -- Okay okay, this is what no one says really. The one time I might rub is if I am fully turned and I am going a decent speed and I go into a driveway.. Maybe. It's not a guaranteed thing every time but that is the only time I have experienced any rub. You'll be fine! I'm as happy as ever!

-- As far as the TRD Pro Grille OEM goes? okay, the difference is in the letters. ALL KNOCK OFF TRD PRO GRILLES WILL have those letters that you use 3M Glue to put on. That's not the worst part. The worst part is that the T and the A at the end will be grey throughout and if you really look, you can tell which grille is OEM and which is aftermarket. It's honestly hardly noticeable. I am a total princess for my reasoning on getting the OEM version. I just felt like I just spent $40,000 on a truck and I didn't want to take a short cut on my grille, so I got the OEM one! Plastic feels the same, the black looks the same. Just the letters thing is kinda the thing. I bet the OEM plastic might be stronger but that is negligible in my opinion because it's not really necessary for our grilles to be indestructible.

I paid the $400 I think, or $350 I don't remember which, but I also got the OEM garnish which was $50ish dollars. If you're going to get anything OEM forsure I'd say go get the garnish OEM. The OEM Garnish will still fit in the aftermarket knock off grille. Only on rare threads have I seen people have issues with the aftermarket grille garnish.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

2x4 crew!! Woohoo! lol

I agree with the idea of spending all the money and getting an aftermarket part. I would do the same thing with the purchase of OEM. As far as the garnish I read similar reviews that it’s better to get the OEM version.

As far as a future lift? Would you consider and go 285/70/17. Will there be a big noticeable difference on Mpg decrease even with Trd wheels that are only 17x7? I am conscious about wanting to do to much too soon since I just got the truck and have 2 year Toyota care maintenance up to 25,000. Afterwards I guess I won’t matter as much on how far I go with the modding. Do you happen to have other pics (besides you other posts) that show your stance of the truck. Maybe from a lower angle. The wheel gap with new rims and tires from the pic you provide looks so close to the wheel well vs the stock setup.

Any additional pics would be appreciated. Excited to get them trd and ko2s as well.

The reason I wouldn't get a lift is because:

1.) my gf's dad is some big shot master mechanic and I trust every thing he says. Every time I have gone against his advice I've paid for it. He knows his stuff. He yelled at me for wanting to get a lift, even a little bit. Toyota spent millions perfecting the Tacoma to be great right off of the lot. Immediately if you do lift it I guarantee you'll do a block lift. Being in florida its flat, why would you get an ICON suspension lift and do it proper? That being said, It's not good for your control arms and various other things with your truck in the long run. YES, TONS of Taco owners lift their shiznit. Yes they do, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and risks and everything. It certainly can make your truck look badass, but as someone that relies on my truck every day, I do not want to deal with eventual weird noises, problems, malfunctions, nothing. That's why I'm staying stock height.

2.) Dude, the science in aerodynamics is insane. So many things can affect your MPG, down to that stupid air dam that I took off of the front of my truck. I am considering putting it back on because I'd get better MPG with it on, by like .75 mpg, which adds up. All of that being said, the higher your truck is, the less aerodynamic and the more of a hit it is on your MPG. Plus, bigger tires will massively affect your MPG. Between tires and lift? Yeah dude we're talking -3 to -5mpg on your truck.

The reason I care? I live in california man, I just had to hit a pump that was $4.89 a gallon. for 20 gallons of gas that's $97.80. At my normal pump near my home it's $3.80 a gallon and it costs about $75 to refill and I drive a lot for my job as a commercial/real estate photographer so I gotta be a lame-o.

If i lived in Texas or somewhere else and made the money I do and gas was like $2.50 a gallon you bet your ass I'd be on some 33" tires!

As far as the offset goes I hope this image helps? I'll try to get a shot of my truck from a lower angle next time I get the chance.

Thanks for the pic. Definitely closer to going with the same tire/wheel combo to stay as close to stock as well. Was hoping for tires to stick out a bit more but if I have to sacrifice more, then I’ll hold back. If I was a more hardcore off road driver then investing on the proper gear would be priority. But for daily driving and aesthetics, you are right in the same boat as I.

And happens to be my wife and I (use to be for 10+ years) are commercial advertising photographers as well. Still have our studio in Fort Lauderdale, cyc wall profoto Broncolor etc. small world.

Send me that lower angle if you can. Would love to see more truck porn to push me to get sooner than later. Haha. That or I’ll be getting the grille or 40 inch light bar / rock sliders first.

Would you happen to know if the sport has a different suspension from the off road version. Seems that off road stock suspension and stance is taller than the sport.
