Recently ordered some turn signals from eBay to see how they opened up. Pretty easy actually, just used a razor knife to cut through the epoxy all the way around the perimeter.

I initially used a 4" generic strip that I found on eBay and was very disappointed in the brightness after adding 2 coats of Nite-Shades

You can see how dim the signal came out -

So after I installed them I decided to split the OEM signals. Stripped the chrome with Easy Off...

Decided the strip showed through too much so I repainted the chrome area black (from the inside)

Once I powered the light up I realized these strips were way brighter. Since I didn't like the white showing through, I went ahead and put a single coat of Nite-Shades on.

Sorry no pictures of the wiring, I cut the OEM connector from the signal and used that for ground and turn signal, picked up a pink wire in the window switch harness for DRL signal, and the teal illumination wire in the switch for low power DRL.

This is awesome. Today I was thinking of how ugly mine are... This may be too advanced for me but I might have to try at some point.

Thanks! If you just want to black them out and use a turn signal it's actually fairly simple. The DRL wasn't that difficult either but it does require fishing the wires through the mirror and tapping into the proper door switch wires.

I couldn't believe how easy it was to cut open the signals, I was nervous at first but it was really simple and hard to mess up.

They actually just come on when the truck is on, the DRLs essentially do the same so I didn't see any reason to run a bunch of extra wire. There are only a couple of times when the truck is on and the front DRLs aren't.

That makes sense. Unless you need at go full stealth mode at night.

Hah, that's something I haven't thought about in quite a while. Hopefully I don't find myself in any situations that require stealth mode.

Very well done! We've been wanting to do a group buy on these for a while but the interest always ends up in people falling through on the deal.
Thanks! Can't say I'm surprised, I posted these on an FB group and got a ton of people commenting that they wanted to buy a set but never got a PM from a single buyer.
