Hey all,

I'm thinking of getting a cold air intake for my 16 taco. In my '08 I ran an AEM and feel it added a bit of improved gas milage and gave a nice growl from the cab. Its been a while since I had my last one. So my questions are.

Which intake is the best or what do you recommend for the gen3's?

What are any pros I will?

Does it improve gas efficiency at all?

Thanks again!

Probably gunna get a lot of mixed answers for this.

I think design wise I like the AFE one best.

Is it going to bet you lots of gains. Probably not.

Are you going to enjoy the sound. Yeah. Anytime I’ve gotten an intake it’s ruined my MPG, cause I can’t keep my foot out of it.

I appreciate it. I'm looking for a mix of answers so please shoot them my way. Looking forward to it.

Various answers are...

no gains just noise
better mpg and power
better sound and better mpg
get a "dry" filter so you don't gum up your intake

I like to say that "The butt dyno never lies." Meaning it could be more responsive with no measurable gains but if it feels good, no problem.

As stated, opinions will vary, but the general consensus amongst almost every car/truck clique is that on a stock vehicle you won't get much than a bit more noise. Maybe a few hp.

My opinion, if you are already saving the coin for a CAI, why not just wait a bit longer, save a tiny bit more, and buy the OV Tune which is guaranteed to increase your power, fun, and usability? OV Tune has so many supporters around the 3G Taco and it works great with the factory air box. I would have already purchased the OV Tune myself, heard nothing but good things, but I am currently trying to convince the wife that the Magnusson SC is what we need. lol

Thank you for the heads up. I really like the idea of OV tune. I've head that these factory set ups ups are just fine. We just took a trip from our home in NM to Oklahoma and it was rough seeing the gas milage. Being that it's my truck and I know how to drive it, I was able to squeeze 16.2 mpg on the 1st leg. But my wife was only able to get 13.1 on the second leg. The whole factory transmission lag on these auto transmissions drives me nuts. I just know the more weight I add (bumpers, sliders, roof rack) the less Mpg I'll get.

The fact that you're referring to the tranny issues makes me think the OV Tune may be perfect for you. From everything I've read, the OV Tune does a great job of remapping the transmission to make the truck not only more driver friendly, but the fact that it shifts less over the course of a trip has increased mpg's for the skinny pedal savvy.

Like I said, I would have done it already, but I am awaiting to see what Magnusson comes out with.

Who is Magnusson and are they working on?

@Mr. Nobody when are they supposed to be coming up with one. I didn't know someone was looking into this.

There is no current release date. All we know is that it's currently in development. They have teased development on instagram a number of times, the most recent they were pretty much messing with 3G owners. It was pretty funny IMO.

I bet anything to get us all excited and thinking of how we're going to move bills around.

Dude I've spent the last few months Jedi mind tricking my wife that we need a supercharger. I don't think it's working. hahahaha

Hahaha, i hear yeah. We're going on vacation to San Francisco next month so my hotel room is taking away from my bumber and maybe even ovtune.

With the supercharger, wouldn’t you kinda need OVTune still for the transmission?

Ditch the hotel room and get a RTT. It’s a “free” hotel room you can keep.

Of course the wife would never be down for that, lol.

My wife said i should get it but she wants to do turbo upgrades on her audi first. After she spends that kinda money there wont be any left for me :(

That's one of the angles I'm waiting to see how Magnusson handles.

Reported! Jk. It cant get here fast enough

I came from water cooled VW's prior to my Tacoma. Love me some boost. Get them turbos on there asap so you can recover that checkbook. haha

Just flash it man. Modern Audi/VW's respond so well to tuning she may not even want a turbo upgra

Hard to argue with gains up to 61-68 HP and 100-111 FT-LBS of torque with minor bolt-ones (exhaust/intake) from just a flash. Plus if you end up upgrading to something like their Stage 3+ turbo kit later they deduct the cost of the software as you have already purchased it. Then they just upgrade your software to match the kit.

I know, I know. I'm probably supposed to be selling you on Taco parts. lol

Taco already has a list. Hehe. Mext will likely be front and rear bumper

Unitronic is solid as well for sure.

Hahaha were currently in Oklahoma for a quick trip. I told her we should Camp instead of stay at the in laws and she thought I was crazy. I really tried through reminding her of all the fun we had on memorial day weekend but she sternly said "no". ??
