• Welcome to Tacoma3G.com, a free resource for 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma owners!

This website is the passion-project of a USMC veteran/mechanic, @Tyler. I created Tacoma3G.com to share my knowledge of this subject with others and to provide like-minded folks with a comfortable space to ask questions and create 'build threads' within our Tacoma Forums. Now, if the format of this website is confusing to navigate for you, or if you're interested in my full mission and T3G's history, check out the Help and About pages.

Good day all.
glad to join this forum, and excited to take a few months and explore north and South America
I am building my own rig, I will be exploring all posts and mining info as I go.
My platform truck is a 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad. Will be starting the build in a couple of weeks when I get back from Utah
Very excited.

Base truck I a 2017 TRD Offroad, it was a toss up between this and my 17 4Runner, but the taco has a lot of Offroad equipment built in.
The going in list
Wheels; 17x8 steel tundra wheels, bent is just bent, cracked aluminum doesn’t hold air
Tire; 33/10.5r17 kenda klever RT
Suspension; ome front- 886 springs, 90000 shocks, total chaos upper and lower control arms. Rear ome el096r springs and 60091 shocks as well as airbags
Going to 4.88 pinion gears, not sure what Toyota was thinking with 3.73.
Other gear at this point;
Arb compressor, snorkel, decked bed storage, RCI bed rack with hutch rtt, arb rear diff breather, 12k winch
Some add on bed stiffeners, and additional recovery points, and drive train skid plates
Addicted desert front bumper
Communications will be ham and gps messenger, my do cb for local chatter

I will update with pics and additional equipment as it evolves.
Very willing to hear input, and will be searching forum for info
Interested in tire choices, as well as good sources for stuff

Fluids for axles, royal purple, unless you know a better one
Making my own dual battery setup, have red arc switch and blue sea 100 amp breakers, would love some input on that
Also looking for roof rack so I can attach solar panels
Thanks again

Welcome to T3G, fellow New York unicorn. I know there aren't many of us here, so it is always exciting to see more.

Looks like you have big plans and know exactly what you want out of your rig. I dig the access cab as your platform for the build. Looking forward to seeing it come along.

Thanks
Yes, I didn’t want the quad cab and trying to keep it on a small footprint
Excited to get going
Just waiting on parts
Going ground up on build
Starting with suspension ending with roof rack

So finally got some time to complete some tasks on the truck
Suspension is done
Total chaos upper and lower control arms, lowers are the new expedition series, better turning radius
Ome shocks and springs

Things are definitely starting to pick up on here. Nice work. ?

almost nothing left except for solar and wiring
Ordered a bumper from Mobtown, they aren’t responding. Getting a little concerned

4.88’s are in, nice upgrade
Off to Europe for a few weeks, happy memorial weekend
See you after July 4th

I'm really digging your tires/wheels/stance the truck has. And that fact that you are going hard on the mods. Do you have a sideshot of the truck with the snorkel installed?

When I get back from Spain I will take a side shot

Back from Spain,
Back to work on the truck soo.
Sliders are in, new tent coming Wednesday
Waiting on front bumper. Will attack lighting and battery management next week, oh joy

How do you like the tires? There isn't much info on them out there. I just ordered them in 35x10.5r17 and should be able to pick them up next week. Narrow 35 and 33 inch sizes are awesome! Also they are super cheap for offroad tires and have nice aggressive looking sidewalls. The gamble seemed worth it for purchasing. Fingers crossed they turn out OK.

They are great, way under rated in us. Aggressive side wall is for low pressure grip. 3ply side wall is very strong, so far good on rock, gravel, asphalt, and mud. For me it was the best all around tire to get me there and get through it as well.
