Just seeing what camper shells people are recommending these days. I’m looking into getting one but don’t want to buy one not knowing what people like or dislike.

I've had an ARE overland on my 17 DCLB Trd sport since August and love it. Had a RTT mounted on the shell from August to January aswell and no cracks or bed movement, only light trails though. Overall quite happy with it

I have a Leer 100xr. I've beaten the snot out of it and am quite happy with it. No shell will be perfect, despite what some will swear to you. They all have their small issues, that's the trade off of a non factory part.

That said most of the top brands are very nice. ARE, Leer, SnugTop, Century, Rader are all good choices.

When I was looking , this sounds silly I know, I setup a Pinterest account and started searching for Tacoma shell, Tacoma cap, etc. I found more and more pictures of every shell combo I could find and then researched more from there. Once I knew what I liked the best look wise, I started researching the various options. All I'll say is that if you plan to camp at all, get windoors. Totally worth it.

I’m very happy with my Leer 100xr with the sliding windoors. Fit and durability have been real good over the last year or so. All leaks I had were related to the windoor and back hatch latches needing to be adjusted so they closed tighter. Other than that, I’d recommend it highly. I liked ARE too when I was shopping around.

Got rid of my leer 100xr. Personally, I did not care for the shell quality. First and foremost the shell leaks. There are two gaps in the Tacoma bed that are susceptible to leaking. I tried silicone but every time I would torsion the bed it would begin to leak again. Second, there is no latch for the rear window. Anytime there is major vibration the window would open and the elements would enter. Lastly, the 250lb weight limit can cause trouble for anyone looking to add an rtt. Some people ignore this but to each his own.

Just got an Alu-Cab canopy. A little pricey but a lot more useful. Easy access. Lots of storage.

I'm requesting a quote from ARE on a custom bed cap. Still haven't decided if I want softopper, bed rack, or hard shell yet lmfao.
