Gonna try and start fabing a vertical spare tire mount once I get the design finalized. Thought it would be fun to make a build thread. It’s going to be a slow process as I’m going to be making it at work on down time.

I like the design so far! It doesn't look like you're leaving yourself any vertical adjustment for various sized wheel/tire combinations?

ETA: Looks like it's slotted, I didn't see that the first time. (y)

Yeah the paper with my “slotted” note got ripped off. Gonna probably make it like a 1” and a half adjustment. Not a 100% on how I’m gonna do as theirs a few ways.

Some more brainstorming. Hit a snag with the hieght adjuster. Some slight tweaks are going to have to be made to the plans. going to make this on draft sight and have it all plasma’d out, also acquired the proper gauge sheet metal.

I’ll have a actual decent drawing of what I think the finished product will look like tomorrow instead of these chicken scratches.

That looks pretty slick. I’ve been brainstorming about something similar. I would like to be able to use the existing spare tire location to have a crossmember built to hold a winch. Long way away but I’ve got ideas lol.

That looks great! Very cool. I'd like to do something similar but closer to the cab. Do you find the tire blocks your rearview much?

Thanks. And it doesn’t that bad. The spot it blocks on the rear view you can see out the side mirror.

Yeah I thought that too. No one seems very interested in it so it’s probably for the best since it was a pain in the ass to hand cut everything.
I figured it was probably a pain. Well if you do change your mind feel free to make a thread in the marketplace section! I love seeing people selling their DIY stuff here.

For sure, if I ever learn the program draftsite I have a plasma table at my work and would be able to make these easy with all the parts getting cut out in seconds.

@Mad Mark This is pretty cool, would be rad if you could relocate it in any of the four corners. The location you have it in blocks the bed storage which may not be ideal for some people. But the design is really good and looks stable. How has it been holding up? I’m looking to build something like this that holds a jerry can and was curious to the weight the bed rail could support.
