I've had the CBI front bumper on the wishlist for a while now, and the opportunity to get one is getting closer. There is a significant price difference between the steel and aluminum, and was wondering if anyone had an opinion on what would be best? I do quite a bit of offroading, and realize I will have to upgrade to a heavier front spring (I currently have OME 887).

Any opinions?

Don’t know if this helps but I went with the CBI aluminum with hoop and warn synthetic rope mainly to reduce weight. Running the OME 886.

I think it depends on your offroading goals. If you're going very aggressive go steel so it won't bend as easily but if you're doing it for more clearance only aluminum should be fine.

For me I'd be at aluminum

Do you have any photos? Did your front end drop at all after install?

That's what I'm leaning towards. I'm trying to figure out what the weight difference is and if i would need to upgrade springs with steel as well.

personally im a fan of steel only because it is much stronger than aluminum. There are benefits to both though being that aluminum is much more lightweight and will reduce the need for heavier coils as well help more with gas mileage as opposed to steel. Steel is heavier, but also far stronger, has a better application towards heavier winching and recovery, aluminum can not house larger winches as it is a lighter metal.
In the end it comes down to your needs and intended application for use.

I agree with the steel bumper I gues it depends if u want it for looks or functionality I’d prefer steel in my opinion I mean these trucks are already bad on gas anyway lol

Yeah it looks like there is only a 10 pound difference between the two. 185 aluminum vs. 195 for steel. Seems like a no brainer. Now I'm wondering if it's worth getting a heavier coil than the 887 I have now.

I would upgrade your coils for some 700lbers. you may experience sag, i definitely did when i installed mine.

Check your weights again. Think the aluminum is around 54lbs.
Ya the aluminum is around that weight. Its not much for sure compared to a steel. If weight is your biggest concern i would go aluminum, it also depends on your budget because aluminum definitely carries a higher pricetag.

I was going off of CBI's website. Maybe I read it wrong. Still, steel would be my preference, for price and long term reliability.

I don’t see any reason not to go with the 700’s. It really just future proofs the truck. Ride quality isn’t all that different.

Definitely, steel is easier to treat with corrosion as well as aluminum can pit rather easily.

no not at all, i have 700lb on my icons and i love them actually.

I have my 888s and 5100s
With steel cbi, winch, light bar, and fogs, it dropped a little bit not much

Steel bumper and synth winch rope is our vote. 50 extra pounds up front is totally worth the strength and peace of mind of a steel bumper in our opinion. We say peace of mind because aluminum welds can be fickle, and we tend to load bumpers in crazy ways in recoveries (y)

I think the concensus is steel here, and I agree. However, how often do you think you’d hit your bumper hard or come down onto it hard? It might not be often for you, so that’s just something else to consider (for someone who may still be trying to decide between the two). But yes, future proofing would be steel + the 700lbs coils. I would defintely upgrade the coils.

Looking for a CBI bumper. Well, get ready to wait for a while. Ordered front and rear bumpers and was told that the ship date would be 4 January 2019.. Called them today 8 January 2019 to check on the status. Was informed that they haven’t even started building them yet. Sure hope this doesn’t turn into another Pelfreybilt shit show.

Holy shit. I can understand it taking longer than expected. But they didn’t even start after your ship date?

When did you order them?

Just the normal crap. “We are sorry, doing the best we can. Thank you for your business.

aren’t going to be close to Pelfrey they were completely different.
Cbi just has a lot of orders. Mine took longer than expected and I ordered it 7 months ago

I know, you are right. Just needed to vent I guess. I think the real issue is that I feel like they lied. If they knew the ship date was (a pipe dream) why say it. So, when the ship date came and I found out the bumpers are still weeks away from being started. Well, it pissed me off.

Yeah I get it.
I waited over a month after expected delivery time. Granted I ordered a rear bumper with it.

I also ordered a rear bumper.

No, just the T3 powder coated black.
